Mrs. Hoffman

Degrees and Certifications:

Mrs. Hoffman

After graduating from Appalachian State, I started working at Gamewell Elementary in 2006.  Since then I have taught fifth, second, and first grade.  Education is truly a rewarding profession.  I am thankful to have been able to work with such a wonderful staff over the years who truly care about the community of Gamewell.

My husband and I are the parents of two beautiful girls.  We really enjoy being outdoors, when we can, watching the joy of our girls fishing, hiking, biking, or just playing in the sand.

Help By Labeling Your Child's Supplies

Your child will have a pencil box at his/her desk. His/her name should be on the pencil box, the three plastic folders, and most importantly individual pencils and dry erase markers.  If you would like to just put the child's class number (the number beside your child's name on the beginning of year folder), on the pencils and markers, that would be fine, and very helpful.

This year your child will be keeping up with his/her own pencils and dry erase markers by having his/her names or class number on each one of them.

One plastic folder will be for the homework folder.  It should have three page protectors inside.  The first one is for notes home.  The second one is for letterland homework.  The third one is for other practice.  You may label these by simply writing on the top right corner with a permanent marker, or if you'd like you can label them.

One plastic folder will be for the morning work.  The other seven page protectors will be in this folder.

The other plastic folder will be used when your child begins AR testing.

The Spiral Notebook will be used as a reading response notebook.

    Help By Getting Good Supplies

We will be using the homework folder and morning work folder every day. The thin sheet protectors that only cost $1 do not hold up very well.  Please get the heavy duty ones.

Also paper folders will not hold up as well as the plastic folders.

Students use dry erase markers every day in my class.  It is helpful for them to use the skinny ones so that their writing fits on the morning work page.  Also it is easier for them to hold.  I have found that the black ones erase best.

The reason I ask that students get yellow pencils is the fancy ones tend to have a plastic coating that tears up the pencil sharpener.

Thank you parents for helping us get a good start to the year.

There are some families that do not have the means to provide school supplies.  If you would like, you may send in extra supplies.

    Other Supplies

I don't allow the students to have extra supplies such as scissors and sharpeners in the classroom.  It becomes a distraction.  I will provide scissors and dry erase cloth erasers for the students as needed.
