Mrs. Leslie Barger
Mrs. Leslie Barger is a native of Caldwell County and is a lifelong learner, herself, dedicated to helping students succeed by helping them develop second language skills in a globally competitive economy and emphasizing the importance of education. She has worked as a Spanish teacher for many years, teaching Spanish in all grade levels (K-12), including Spanish I-IV at the high school level. She has also taught Spanish classes for business/industry at the community college level, worked in the furniture industry as Director, Corporate Training, and has worked at the community college level as the Assistant Director of TRIO/ETS. Incorporating her varied background knowledge, she offers a wide range of activities in her Spanish I and II classes at CCCMC, differentiating learning for students of all learning styles. Spanish is primarily spoken in her classes, so her students will learn to "decode" the language, training their minds to comprehend and speak Spanish more effectively. To help students memorize information, she also writes and records her own original music. Along with providing some of her own original short stories and poems, a wide variety of authentic Spanish reading materials are offered in her classes, so students will learn syntax, grammar, culture, vocabulary, conjugations, and cross-curricular lessons more effectively by seeing the language in context. Students are expected to fully participate in class, complete various reading, writing, and speaking projects in Spanish, turn in work on time, turn in missing work within 2 days of an absence, practice Spanish outside of class (whenever possible), and ask and answer questions in Spanish class, after receiving instruction. Many opportunities for learning are offered in her classes; however, tutoring is also available after school, by appointment. I encourage parents to work with me to help their students succeed. Please feel free to contact me any time (email is the quickest way to contact me), and I will respond as soon as possible.
